Branding is an important step in building your business. When you see a Wal-Mart logo, or even a Wal-Mart building (inside or out, even without the Wal-Mart sign), you automatically know it’s a Wal-Mart. This is part of their branding effort, so you will recognize them right off. Well, this is true for any business, the more recognizable you are, the better you will do, and the more customers you will attract.

Choose a good business name
Choosing an easy to remember and easy to spell business name is always a great idea, if customers can't remember how to spell your name they will have a hard time finding you, which will mean a lower customer retention rate (repeat customers). (example business name like 'Iuffelit' would probably be hard for many customers to pronounce, spell or remember. But a name like Gadget World would be easier for people to spell and remember.

You want to try and create an easy on the eyes logo that you are happy with for your company. This is huge in brand recognition. Whenever you see a logo of a brand you are familiar with you automatically know the brand without even reading what the logo actually says. When picking a logo, you generally want to create it so that it matches the color scheme of your business.

Color Scheme
Choosing a color scheme for your business will also help you create brand recognition, but it isn't as important as your logo, but you always want to make sure that your colors are easy on the eyes. You don't want to have bright yellow words on white background, it will be very difficult to read, if you have to squint to read what you have to say, your message will probably be lost. (example Wal-Mart color scheme is grey, blue and yellow, Novatech Wholesale is black and red).

Phone Number
Having a way for your customers to contact you is important, usually you don't want to use your personal number for this. Once you choose a phone number for your business you generally don't want to change it later as you will lose touch with a lot of customers if you do. If you don't already have a business line, I have a few recommendations, if you want a toll-free number and quality service, I would suggest going with either Grasshopper (www.grasshopper.com) or Onebox (www.onebox.com). If you just want a really cheap local number to use, magic jack is a cheap way to go.

About Us Section
On your website, you will have an about us page, and an about us section on your home page. I would highly recommend using these sections to write unique content (search engines like unique content so these pages will have a lot of search weight) about your business on topics like how the business idea was started, your mission statement (what your goal is for your business), the types of products you will be offering and anything else you can think of that will give your customers and idea of who you are and what you offer as a business.
